My friend. Everytime i replace cpu, ppu or any ic, it seems short circuit or smoke from ic i replaced. I test all pins if it has continuity. I dont know how i can swap an ic
Will Mega Everdrive Pro play Sega CD games on this? I'm guessing not since it's still a Genesis with a 32X, but maybe something about the way it's modded allows it to function
oi amigo, tudo bem? Verifique GP 1 Neptune da empresa Game Scare, ela está produzindo um modelo em escala comercial. Abraço
It's too bad that the USA never got the Sega Neptune in retail stores, but, no! The Neptune got canceled because of the Sega Saturn! If you have a Sega Neptune, then you don't need a Sega Genesis and a Sega 32X add-on for it. And if you have a Sega CDX or any other type of stand-alone Sega CD/Sega Genesis 2-in-1 console, then you don't need a Sega Genesis model 1 or a Sega Genesis model 2 and you don't need a Sega CD model 1 or a Sega CD model 2 add-on for either Sega Genesis model.
On the end opposite the battery side of the timekeeper chip is the 32.768kHz quartz crystal oscillator. When taking measures to expose and remove the battery, be very careful not to go too far on the other half of the top of the timekeeper to avoid the risk of destroying the oscillator. Without the oscillator, while the timekeeper will keep the time, date, and data in memory, the timekeeper's internal clock will not run when the CDI unit is off. So, if it was turned off at 12:30 PM, the clock will freeze on 12:30 PM until the unit is on again. This doesn't sound like a big deal, but it can be; the system may not behave correctly without a fully working timekeeper. The chip must be able to keep time as well as save data. Fortunately, it's relatively easy to fix this if you do manage to damage or destroy the oscillator. Just remove the old oscillator like you did the battery and solder in a new oscillator, which isn't expensive.
Seems like a lot of work for a smaller screen.
Yeah there are much better options available now
what kind of dc power does the duo need ? can i use md2 dc adapter ?
No it has a different size barrel jack. Castlemania has good triad replacement power supplies
@@LIRetroGaming thanks for the reply and info
I received the 21" version today, but there is only a red led, it won´t turn on, do you have any tips what to look out for?
I’m one of those people who broke their ps2 trying to clean it out. It broke my heart and discouraged me from modding and cleaning machines but I’ve gotten over it now and have successfully modded quite a few consoles. This is one mod I want to do more than anything but really scared of breaking another ps2 or wasting money on the retro gem because it’s quite pricy. Is there another HDMI mod for another console that would be a bit easier, and possibly help practice for this one?
Now we have (almost) a Neptune out of a factory. Its a Brazilian project using FPGA! Look it up! it is awesome!
Yeah I saw that and it’s exciting stuff
THIS KIT IS BADASS !!! you will rediscover your console, and have great fun to play with 4x speed loading and in game menu... this is INSANE !! I install it myslef and it's easy , just except the pin to solder on the TOP SPI-2 chipset ! the reste is not that hard ....
The title says it’s a PAC-N1 but if it’s an American Turbo Grafx it would be a PAC-N10! BTW, I’m in the market for a PAC-S10 & PAC-N10, please help me out!
i ended up not needing to plug the internal power barrel connector from the genesis board to the 32x, is this normal?
That doesn’t sound right. How is the 32x getting power?
Instead of finding the larger game bit screwdriver, alternatively you can use an inverted torx bit and file it flat! Works great
Unfortunately my Mitsubishi CRT does not have an RGB input. I wish I could S-Video my Colecovision. Maybe I can, I don’t know.
I don’t think there’s an s video mod yet. If your crt has component video then the genesis 2 connector will work
@@LIRetroGaming Unfortunately my TV doesn’t have RGB. The German and UK versions of the same TV do have RGB via SCART, but here in Australia we never adopted SCART so I only have composite and S-Video. 😢😢😢
A VERY tiny correction, but while the PS3 had HDMI out of the box, at first the 360 only had analog too, though it supported full RGBHV through VGA as well as component. It wasn't until the later "Elite" model that they finally provided digital HDMI output. Still, it's a very tiny nitpic since the majority of the 360's lifespan, it had that port post- Elite. Not to mention there's very few of those pre-Elite consoles still in working order for red ring reasons...
love it but look t it wrong and it might get scratched lol
Using just the composite rca cable to get that end result?
No this mod uses either component cables or RGB cables
I recapped my board using a kit from console 5 and even after recapping I had to dial down the laser to 112 ohms before it could consistently spin and read discs without issue. For the time being it works but ultimately I may have to get a picoboot mod and serial 2 to sd adapter to play backups for longevity.
Ok soooooo the big question is…….will you be offering a send in service for this incredible mod? My Genesis 2, 32x & wallet are all ready to go
Actually yes, I can do that for you! I am catching up on orders now but I can do this for you soon
thanks for this video, super helpful while building this same project, unlike the high production macho nacho video.
Thanks! I’m really glad that this video was helpful. It’s definitely a fun project to build!
and this thing is even bigger than a ps2 phat, what an achievement.
Not exactly, you would need 2 of them and then maybe it’s the same size as a phat ps2
Supongo que los juegos de ps1 también se verían bien usando una ps2 con ese mod verdad?
Yes it also works with ps1 games
But why didn't SEGA just move the Genesis platform over to the Nomad? Or even a Nonad CD that lets you okay music on the go? There were already 1200 games for the CDX, and there was virtually no competition for it. We might've seen a total of 100 million Mega Drives around the world being played as portables.
What would it cost to send you my wii for the hdmi installation, as i live in the uk?
I'm having a weird problem with my childhood SNES. It randomly acts like the start button has been pressed mid game even though I hadn't touched it. I'm using 2 first party controllers that work fine on another SNES I have, I've swapped out the controller ports (including ribbon) and it still does it. Have you ever seen this before? And if so, is there any info you could give me on how to track down and fix the problem?
Give me more power stone 2, and i can't wait for the show!
Have you done an IPS Screen Mod? i just have recently and my Sega-CD Games wont even boot in the Nomad using an MED-Pro. they work flawlessly tho in the MegaSD and Megadrive 1.
This is an awesome mod. I'd love to get this mod done on my genesis model 1 hd.
Unfortunately those model 1 motherboards are too big to fit in these shells. You will need a model 2
@LIRetroGaming I was thinking of getting it done without the neptune shell. I was told that it can be done on a model 1 HD. Do you know if there's any truth to this?
Still up for sale?
I sold this one a long time ago but I can make more. I temporarily closed my site to catch up but I should be able to make you one soon
@@LIRetroGaming I'm based on LI as well. Name the price
This is subjectively better than the OSSC if you’re playing games that constantly switch resolution and use interlaced signals. The OSSC’s line doubler really does look nice for pixel games but adds a pixelated effect over 3D games. I use the GBSC into an OSSC for the best of both. My mega drive and snes go directly into the OSSC but my Saturn, dreamcast, ps1 and ps2 go into the GBSC. I output them video through VGA at 480p and upscale 2x using the OSSC. That seems to be the sweet spot for me but ultimately I do this purely to convert the interlaced signal using the GBSC, not for a clean image but for a consistent one. Handles great with the elgato 4K.
Are the throughholes you put the wires into labeled at all? If so what are they? It was a little hard to tell with the CSYNC wire being slightly unaligned with the others. Just want to make sure I get this right
They are not labeled, but there’s a good photo of the vias here with labeling www.consolemods.org/wiki/SNES:SNES_Jr_Pre-Assembled_THS7374_Amp

when you compare the Retrotink 5x pro to all of the HDMI mods that people spend a ton of money for each console then the 5x Pro is a no brainer. It is much better, plug and play and guaranteed to save a few consoles every year. Total up the cost of HDMI mods of all the various consoles and you will see the difference
I think it depends a lot on the setup. If you have 10+ consoles the tink5x or another scaler is the best way to go. But if you have only a few retro consoles, or if you’re moving them around to different locations, then the hdmi mods are a great option. I have both mainly because I bring my consoles with me to events all the time and direct hdmi at a venue is much better
@@LIRetroGaming looking at retro gem pricing, 2 retro gems cost more than the Retrotink 5x pro. so for me i would take the cheaper and less risky route
While ice climber is a vertical game, supermariobros is a horizontal game, but did you really had to manually change those switches to skip from horizontal into vertical mode? Was there no way to do it automatically? And since those necessary switches are inside, it makes me wonder how it could switch from supermariobros to ice climbers and back again without needing manually toggle those switches, mmm.
So how does the Retrotink 4k / 5x pro compare to this mod ? from what i have seen the Retrotink is awesome (and no soldering and portable ?
There are a few scalers that can do a very good job with the ps2 including the Tink 5x/4k, the OSSC pro, and the Morph. If you have those scalers already then it would probably not be worth it to hdmi mod a ps2
@@LIRetroGaming I broke down, ordered the 5x pro and decided that i wont do any more of the intense soldering mods. Buying the 5x will allow me to have the benefit of multi consoles/home computers capable of achieving a pretty well perfect image, and based over the cost of the 5x the cost saving benefits spread across all the consoles makes for a cheap safe install
i can use one good shielded cable set up for RGB etc and i will make small adapters that fit into the source console, this will save the added expense of buying multiple cables., the cost of cables for all these consoles is not cheap @@LIRetroGaming
I know this video is older but I'm working on an X'Eye right now and was curious if you had seen this: System boots up fine (has new region free BIOS and FRAM) and plays genesis carts ok, but doesnt even attempt to spin disc. Have tried multiple lasers (one replacement and was sure to remove anti static blob). I verified the lid switch / sensor is working ok as the dashboard switches from insert disc to checking disc as soon as I close tray or if i push it down by finger. This was also confirmed using test point pin on the CD board, it changes between 0V and 5V when the switch is activated or deactivated. I can see the red laser for a brief moment or two when first closing tray, but absolutely NO life in either motor, for the spindle or the feed. I separated the CD Drive from the system and wired up 5V direct to the motors and they activated ,so i know the motors are good. When system is plugged in and turned on (and lid switch depressed, im only seeing .900 volts on the motor terminals I verified that IC691 is showing correct voltage for laser on / off on pin 48. The only thing "off" is that supposedly Pin 4 of IC601 is supposed to show 5V to be fed to spindle motor as step 4 of the CD operation flow chart. Im getting around 2 and a half volts. So I'm considering ordering a replacement IC chip Sony CXD2500BQ but I'm not 100% confident thats the issue, I dont have a working Xeye to compare voltages. Just was curious if you had ever seen an Xeye that wouldnt spin discs and it wasnt a lid sensor issue. System has also been deep cleaned and fully recapped
I'm guessing you tried cleaning the laser eye with a q-tip and rubbing alcohol?. Also did you try manually pulling the sled away from the spindle and see if bootup brings it back to the middle? You may have to adjust the laser eye ohm pot as these laser can get weaker as time goes by (or sometimes someone else fiddles with it). But try to take a reading before you adjust so you can always set it back. (I had one that wouldn' read disks recently and just turning it 1mm fixed it right up.
@@Elecyview interesting... So as someone that doesnt really mess with optical drives much a failing/dead laser will prevent the spindle from working too? As in during the process does it only spin up if the laser can see a disc is inserted? No, i can have the sled all the way towards the outside and it never tries moving the sled. Havent messed with POTS but I can take readings using my multimeter and try
@@LedZepFan7183 I'm not an expert, but in my experience (gamecube laser eyes and a few playstations and now this JVC) The first thing that happens is the eye tries to focus a beam and get a reflection back to detect if there's a disc there that it can read, then it will try spinning up if there is. That way the motor never activates if there's no disk in there. It's not a guarantee that is what is happening here, but if you've had the lid off and can SEE the red beam then its trying to read the disk. But it's wierd if you pull the sled out and it doesn't auto track it back to the center when you turn it on with the lid closed. (mine at least did that when it wasn't reading the cd's yet). So that could be some kind of issue with your measurements of the current you're seeing? If you want to adjust the laser pot, There is one directly under the laser eye itself, you can see it from the 'back' of the laser unit after you take the black metal shield off the top (3 screws and occasionally these posts break off at the base over time if the console is jostled around a bit, so sometimes you can just pull this off without undoing the screws.) but there should be a single adjustable pot on that laser assembly. (it is not the 4 or 5 that are on the cd circuit board that houses the karaoke jacks). For me I turned it about 1mm very very slight to the right. I don't have my exact values handy, but I believe this dropped my resistance by 100 ohms and that immediately fixed the issue with my first system. I didn't tweak much beyond that. Just makes sure you write down the current ohm reading so you can always put it back there if you go too far.. And make micro adjustments.. it should never be more than an 'hours' worth if you looked at this dial like a clock, if that makes sense (never go from 12 to 1, that's a big adjustment for this kind of thing). Just micro adjustments. This may not even fix the issue or even be the issue, but it is something you could try if you get exhausted of everything else. But the sled not returning is concerned, as I believe that should happen regardless if there's a cd in there or not... Again i'm not a pro. Just a hobbiest.
I built one myself but all i get is a gray screen it's definitely not the cartridge slot or cpu or ppu anyone got any ideas?
Not sure why anyone would want to play PS1 games on the original hardware, the experience is so much better playing them on a PS2, especially with the smoothing of textures. If you’re going to mod anything mod your PS2, forget about the PS1.
One thing that confuses me a bit in Borti's instructions on GitHub pertains to adding resistance for a brightness fix to prevent it from looking too washed out. I see Borti added those resistors to the board, (R11, R21 and R31) so you don't have to reuse other resistors on the SNES board. The part that confuses me, is - are those resistors part of the circuit by default? His instructions still mention that you can still grab resistors elsewhere if you want, but also says: "seems to be a good choice. By replacing R3 on the SNES mainboard you must not use the brightness correction resistors R11, R21 and R31 on the modding board." So are R11, R21, R31 on the PCB not actually doing anything by default (How else would you 'not use them'?). Are you expected to do some soldering to 'use' those three resistors he built-in?
So i won't have any problem if i just match lazer model
Instagram
I recently bought a replacement laser and it appears that it has soldering covering at the back, should this be removed? I’m unsure if it can stay. If so, how would you recommend removing it? Thx
Yes it needs to be removed. You can use a soldering iron and solder wick to remove it
Do you guys offer repairs? I did this mod but would love for you guys to check it over.
Yes, we do offer repairs and you can reach me at the 1uprestorations website
hello sir, i have a problem with mine, in the test mode i have a cross with PLL_A Lock, what is this? thank for your answer.
It means that connection is not good. You should check the troubleshooting guide and reflow the connections on the flex cable.
Were you able to re-use the bottom RF shield post installation?
You can reuse it, but you do have to trim a decent chunk of it so that it does not make contact with the board
@@LIRetroGaming Thank you for the reply. I completed the mod last night. Thank you for taking time to put this video together. It’s a neat little machine.
Is there a way to swap system storage with the memory stick? I mainly play a couple games at a time and I want that extra space for music
It's ok you didn't wanna play house of the dead or silent scope or virtual cop anyway...edit not silent scope.
Does an RGB mod an addition to this provide any benefit?
You can add one and it’s good if you ever need to use the console on a crt instead of through hdmi
@@LIRetroGaming so it doesn't do anything for HDMI but provides better functionality on CRT, yeah?
Do you have the STL file for the Neptune? I am trying to find a 3d model of it for EMUVR to make a UGC file to have it in a virtual environment.
No it’s not publicly available yet, you can have PCBway print it for now
